RE: Installation of siding.
I'm writing in regard to your letter dated September 12,1997, concerning
the siding installation on your residence at the above address, In response
to items 1-7 listed in your letter, the following observations are based on my
visit to your residence on August 29, 1997,
1, When face nailing is used to correct building irregularities nails shall be
caulked, I don't recall any face nailing at the time your home received final
occupancy approval.
2, End joints shall have a minimum 3/16 inch gap, At the time your home
was constructed many contractors contended that they were providing the
correct gap at joints, but the joint size shrunk as time passed. They
maintained that the product was being delivered to the job site with a zero
moisture content, and as it assumed the atmospheric moisture content the
product expanded and the end gap spacing was lost There are many joints
which have caulking protruding from them which would indicate that at
sometime the joint spacing was larger. Presently a percentage of the end
gaps appear to be correct and I have no reason to believe the gap spacing
was inadequate at the time of inspection,
3. I have no knowledge of the siding lap being incorrect

4. I'm unsure of what your referring to when you talk about roof rakes.
Clearance from the roof rakes was not a concern at the time of our visit at
your residence. In reviewing the manufactures installation instructions I
can find no reference to the minimum required clearance from roof rakes.
5. I did find one nail that appeared not to be galvanized.
6. Failure of the siding sealant should be addressed by the manufactures
representative.
7. I have no knowledge or documentation concerning the voiding of the
warranty on your siding by Louisiana Pacific.
