Dear Ms. Burt:
Subject: Additional kitchen window for single family residence under construction at
4560 Glacier St., Springlield, Oregon.
This will eonlirm our recent telephone convers~llion regarding your desire to inswll an
additional window in the: kitchen area ofyoul" new home:. Your proposal to install a
window at the side wall in the location of the kitchen range on the approved building
plans appcars to be possible from the slandpoint of the building codes. My understanding
is that you propose 10 rcloe<1lc the range in another local ion on the same wall and install a
window where the range is presently shown on Ihe plnns.
The building codes require exlerior building w~lIls to be braced at building corners and at
maximum 25 foot intervals. The bracing althe builqing corners must be located within
eight feet of the corner. Depending upon Ihe location 'lI1d si7.e of Ihe window it appe'lrs
that the wall bracing requirement can be mel by providing a four f'ool wide brace panel on
either side of the window as long as the brace panel is within the relJuired eight-l'oot
distance from the building corner.
Since Ihe home is being built under the Super Good Cents program, I suggest Ihal you
also obtain concurrence from the electrical utility people who administer that program to
verify that the extra window meets their requirements.
Sincerely,
fie ;;r4~
