The PUrpl)SC of this letter is to record that on the datcs of November 6 and 12, 1 '1l17, Oregon
(jeotechnical Services statlprovided inspection of the residential construction at 7216 H,)lIy St.,
Springfield, Oregon. Inspection consisted of observation and testing of the fill placed to bring the
site to grade alter excavation. Work was performed in allenrdancc with the special inspection
ll~quests of the City of Springfield. This inspection was performed by David E. Reich, (eni tied
Engineering Geologist lOR Lie. II E 1227) and Andrew W Lamb, Geotechnical Associate, of Oregon
Geotechnical Serviccs, 38401 Place Road. Fall Creek, Oregon. 97438.
Work included site rcconnaissance, visual insp.:ction and manual testing, and inspection orthe till
in the footing areas to verity hearing capacity. Visual inspection of the Cllmpaction efton was
performed by "proof-rolling" the constructed pad with a fully loaded 10-yard dump truck. and
relative density testing, to veriry the suitability or thc subgrade, and cenily that the structural till
placed at thc site meets minimum compaction requirements, and is suitable for the proposed
building construction.
Summarv
The strucrural fill placed underneath the proposcd buildlOg is of adequate strenl,'lh for residemial
home development. Follo\\1ng subgrade preparation, rhe site was backtilkd with 5-inch. n"n-
gr:,ded ('''lpen'') quarry rock, and 3 4 minus, graded quarry rock to constcuct a level pad ~t grade.
Fill thickness varics between 1.0 and 4.0 feet. The upper 0.5 to I.U feet "I' structural till is capped
with 3/4 minus, graded quarry rock. Where less than a foot ,)1' till was necessary,S inch "open" rock
was used to bring the pad to grade. The Ito 4 reel of gravel agl,'Tegate placed on native s,lil will
provide a minimum bearing capacity of 150U PSF (pounds per square loot).

The fill is appropriately constructed and adequately compacted. Aggregate till was placed in R to
to inch lifts at an appropriate moisture content, as requested. Testing confirms that the density of

Runoff from downspouts and surface drainage should be directed away from th.: footings, to avoid

of the footing should be graded so that the ground surfaces slope away from the foundation.
