As requested. a lite visll was performed on June 11, 2004 to observe soil conditions at lhe
above address. Approxlmalely Ihe top 30' of soils allhls slle are a dark brown silty loam.
Pockels of dark brown sandy clay are found below Ihe silty loam. This clay has a high risk for
expansive behavior. Design for the site is as follows: All organic materials shall be rem~
from load bearing areas. Areas where Ihe expansive solis are found shaH be over excavated
and filled in with a minimum of 12" of 'I." crushed roc\( and compaetecl. Additionally, a
perforaled dreln tine shall be Installed in such a way 10 prc\lfde dralnave 10 over excavated
areas and minimize groundwater from uphill portions. The pipe lI\all be sloped to a reliable
outlet away from the proposed structure.
On June 28, 2004. a compaction Inspection of the gravel under the proposed foundation was
performed on this site In preparation for the construellon involving foundallon for Ihe . '" . led
residence. The excavation involved the placement of 3/4" minus crushed roCle. The compacted
surface of the crushed rock Is adequate to support a conventional wood frame resldence with a
standard foundation per the 2003 Slate of Oregon One. and Two Family Dwelling Specialty
Code aa adopled per the local JuriSdiction. The compaction of the gravel surface Is greater than
9S% of a standard proctor, per ASTM 0698-91.
