Ray Brunton, 35 Years of Service, F&LS Curt Bierman and Ray Brunton were both hired on Februaty 15, 1973 as Firemen. I I Curt Bierman is currently a Captain/EMT Intermedi~te He is the boat driver/instructor with the water rescue team; he also coordinates building inspections for the line. Promoted to Engineer August 1, 1978 I Promoted to Fire Lieutenant January 1, 1981 Reduction in Rank to Fire Engineer as per 1982/83 budget July 1, 1982 Promoted to Captain January 1, 1987 I I i Ray Brunton is currently an Engineer/EMT Intermediate I Promoted to Engineer January 1, 1979 Ray is a State Overhead Team member, which is part of th~ Office of State Fire Marshal which assists and supports the Oregon fire servic~ during major emergency operations through the Conflagration Act (ORS!476.51 0). · The Conflagration Act was developed in 1940 as a civil defense measure and can be invoked only by the Governor. i · The act allows the State Fire Marshal to mobilize firefighters and equipment I from around the state. I' · The Conflagration Act is only used for large scale in~idents that overwhelm local or regional resources. ! · Ray was the Task Force leader for the lane County 1rask Force on the Biscuit fire conflagration, Task Force Member on the; East Evans Creek Fire in August of 1992, and on the Hull Mountain Fire in August of 1994. I · Ray currently serves as Chair of the Wildland Committee. . I Ray says that 35 years ago the department only had three stations and calls were mostly fire with few medical calls - reverse of today. I. I I Significant events: i . The bus fire on 28th Street where three children died.! · Vernonia Flood, knowing he had made a difference i~ people's lives during that time. i i Ray says this is the best job in the world!
