INSPECTION DATES:
INSPECTOR:
Michael G. Mabrey, PTL
SUPPLIER/CONTRACTOR: Ross Building Systems
Visual we1dment inspection was performed on the. extension ridgid frame
columns and extension end wall columns after their installation,
The ridgid frame columns differed from the approved drawings in that
gusset plates were welded to both sides of the tube steel at the top
and bottom connections. Also, splice plates were welded to all four
sides of end column connections, Both changes should enhance the
strength of these connections.
Welding was perfonned by Ralph Sackett', ,Jr, "with SMAW process using
,E7014 electrodes and a Lincoln 250 Amp welder. Some difficulty was
reported in maintaining the proper amperage, so a Lincoln 400 Amp
welder was used to complete the.project.
Since Mr. Sackett holds certifications in gas metal arc welding only,
he will take the qualification test for shielded metal arc welding
as soon as possible. The results of this test will be sent to the
contractor and the City of Springfield Building Dept. when completed,

November 6, 1984
All fillet welds were 3/16" or larger with the 'exception of those at five of the
column bases. These were corrected and approved on November 6, 1984. Welds
were free of cracks and craters, porosity was minimal and weld profiles were
acceptable. One weldment was rejected for excessive undercut and another for
overlap, Both were repaired in a satisfactory manner and approved on
November 6, 1984, at which time all welds were in accordance with the quality
requirements of AWS 01,1-84,
Respectfully submitted.
