RE: Subgrade Evaluation
Lot 61 -1003 So. 69th Place
Permit No 00-00995-01
Sprrngfleld, Oregon
On August 8, 2000, a B2CC engineer observed and hand-probed the exposed subgrade
on the above referenced residential bUilding lot to assess foundation beanng capacity of
the soil.
Lot 61 - 100350_ 69th Place, Permit No. 00-00995-01
At the time of our site VISit, the site had been excavated mto native soil approximately 7-
feet below surface grade in the southwest corner to near original grade In the northeast
corner. The bUIlding pad has been covered WIth a thin (2- to 3-inches) lift of gravel for
leveling and the foundation forms have been set and reinforcing steel placed.
The subgrade is comprised of a weathered basalt soil and fractured basait boulders and
IS suitable for an allowable bearing capacity up to 1,500 pst. The subgrade soil appears
to be highly expansive; therefore, we recommend presaturating the subgrade prior to
pouring foundations and stabilizing the soil moisture content by covering the subgrade
adjacent to the foundations with plastic sheeting and backfilling against the foundations
as soon as pOSSible
The general area of Lot 61 IS known to have intermittent springs and near surface
ground water migration dUring the wet season, we recommend that a perimeter footing
drain be placed on the sout" and west sides of the structure and that the landscape soil
be sloped to direct surtace water away from all foundatIons, and water should not be
allowed to pond adjacent to footings
