':VARIANCE REQUEST: The applicant requested a variance from Section 9-7-11 (2) (b) of
the Springfield Sign Ordinance relative to sign requirements for multiple family
,dwelling propertjes in the Residential Sign District.

CITY REFERENCE: Section 9-7-11 (2)(b) of the Springfield Sign Ordinance..
At the Board of Appeals meeting held on August 11, 1983, the Board of appeals rendered
the fOllowing decision regarding the above referenced variance'request:
X Approved
Denied
.FINDINGS OF FACT:
1) The property is located directly adjacent toa Freeway Sign District.
2) The majority of the surrounding properties are zoned commercial or high density
residential, therefore, the signs are not inconsistent'"with other/nearby' signs.
3) The purpose of the Sign Ordinance is to allow properties to be identified from
each street frontage, therefore, the intent of the Code is met by allowing signs
on both .frontages.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
1) The sign to be located on Gateway Street is not to exceed 7~' in height.
2) The sign to be located on Harlow Road is not to exceed 6~' in height.
