January 20, 1983 .. , ..:-t' Breeden Brothers, Inc. :.. 366 East 40th' Street Sprin9fie1d, Oregon 97401 ' RE: Courtesy Inspection at 634 Edgemont Way, Springfield, Oregon Dear Si rs: At the request of Jaunita Carriveau, a Courtesy Inspection was made by the Spring- fie,ld Building Division on January 14, 1983, at the above addr~ss, Ms. Carriveau .: ' requested the inspection because the wiring to an electric water heater burned-off. .--... . , The followin9 items were found to be in violation of the Oregon Electrical Safety " Code: -. 1. A #8 AWG aluminum feeder to the water heater was protected by a 50 ampere circuit breaker. 2. Aluminum and ,copper conductors were spliced with blue scotch 10c wire splicing .devices. The Electrical Safety Code in effect at the time the building was constructed allowed:' ' " 1. 2. No more than a 30 amperS'protective device for #8 aluminum on #10 copper con- ductors having 600 (140 ) temperature rating. N.E.C. 310-16 Tables Aluminum and copper conductors may be spliced together only when the connecting device is suitable for the characteristics of both metals to be connected. N.E.C. 110- 14 The above violations could very well have resulted in more hazardous situation, i.e. '" a fi re - than di d, fn fact, occur.
