As you requested, an inspection was peiformed at the above noted address on December 21, 2004, to examine damage from a portion ofa tree falling and striking the north unit of the duplex. The single-story wood framed structure was constructed with an engineered truss roof system. The trusses span from front to rear of the structure (east and west). As a portion of the tree fell, it landed on the roof above a bedroom at the rear of the residence. At the time ofthe inspection the following observations were made. The portion of the fallen tree had been removed from the roof; as well as the roofing material on the rear ofthe structure. The sheet of plywood at the point of impact had also been removed. The impact split the top chord on the rear half of one of the engineered trusses, and displaced the plate connectors between the web and top chord of the first truss on each side of the truss with the split top chord. The following repairs should be made to the residence. A full length; kiln-dried 2x6 should be sistered onto each side of the split truss top chord. The 2x6's should be screwed to the existing truss top chord with two rows of#9 x 3" cut threaded wood screws at 12" on center. The trusses with displaced metal connectors should have 16" x 16" gUssets made out of v," CDX plywood installed on each side of the truss. The gussets are to be attached with adhesive and #10 xIII," cut thread wood screws (eight screws into top chord and six screws into the web). The roof sheathing and roofing materials are to be replaced to match the existing roof. Damage not noted above that is discovered during the cleaning, exposing, and repair of the structure should be brought to the attention of Kevin M. Peterson Engineering, P.C. OR Job # ko412~ ) As you requested, an inspection was performed at the above noted address on December 21, 2004, to examine the repairs to the portion of the roof damaged by a falling tree. The following repairs were made to the residence at the time of the inspection. A full length, kiln-dried 2x8 has been sistered onto each side of the split truss top chord.
