In addition, the septic tank on your property has failed evidenced by r,"; sewage in the yard. BeclUse this condition poses a potentially serious public health hazard, immediate corrective ac- tion must be taken. The Department of Environmental Quality has established requirements for septIc tank abandonment in Oregon Administrative rules, Chapter 340, Division 7. The required abandonment procedure is as follows: "Each and evory owner of the real property upon. which is situated a subsurface sewage disposal system which is required to be abandoned, or which has been abandoned, shall have all the sludge from the septic tank, seepage pit or cesspool removed by a person holding i sewage disposal service license, and shall fill same with clean bat-run gravel or other material approved by the Directo~ or his authorized represen~ative." You should contact a licensed s~ptic tank pumper. Many are listed in thb yellow pages of your telephone direc- tory. Upon completion of abandonment you ?r your representative should notify the Building Division of the City of Springfield for an inspection at 726-3769. Section 2-10~1 of th~ Springfield City cOdl requires that ". ..a person erecting or maintilining a ~atcr closet, sink, bathtlllJ,lor drain in"the 'City upon propetty with- in 120 feet of any public sanitary sewer shall connect the facility with the sewer at his own expense, in the manner and urldc} regtllations GIld supervision prescribed by the City." . You "ill have thirty (30) d~ys fTom the date of this letter to con- nect to the sanitary sewer system. A plumbing permit is required, as well as a $100.00 sewer connection fee. Both may bel purchased at the Public Works Department. After connection to the sanitary sewer sysFem is completed, all work must also be inspected by the Building Division of the City of Springfield.
