Sprinkler system consists of a wet
sprinkler system. Tbe mercantile
area is calculated as an Ordinary
Hazard Group II at .20 gpm per sq;
ft. on 1708 sq. ft. using Tyco EC-14
standard response, extended
coverage, glass bulb, 14.0K, 155
degree temperature rated sprinkler
heads.
The storage area is calculated for
rack storage. The storage height is
15 feet. Aisle width is 4 feet. The
commodity class is Class IV
non-encapsulated, palletized storage
with no in-rack sprinklers. The
ceiling height is 19 feet 4 inches. Bob
calculated the density based on the
Control Mode Density Area
Sprinkler Protection as per NFPA
13,2002 edition, Section 12.3.2.1.
Table 12.3.2.1.2, based on the above
criteria, refers to Figure
12.3.2.1.2(d) and Curves G and H.
Curve G was used due to the use of
286 degree high temperature rated
sprinkler heads (Tyco ELO-231,
fusible solder type, standard
response, standard coverage,
upright, 11.2K rated heads). Curve
G requires a density of .58 gpm per
sq. ft. at 2000 sq. ft. The density was
reduced by 60 percent per Figure
12.3.2.1.5.1 due to the 15 foot
storage height. .58 X .6 = .348 = .35.
Therefore the adjusted density is .35
gpm per sq. ft. over 2000 sq. ft.
Canopy areas are not sprinklered
due to non-combustible construction
as allowed in Section 8.14.7.2.
