HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/13/1998 Work Session MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE SPRINGFIELD CITY COUNCIL HELD MONDAY, APRIL 13, 1998 . The Springfield City Council met in Work Session at Springfield City Hall, Library Meeting Room, 225 Fifth Street, Springfield, Oregon at 7:45 p.m. with Mayor Morrisette presiding. ATTENDANCE Present were Mayor Morrisette and Councilors Ballew, Beyer, Burge, Dahlquist, Maine and Shaver. Also present were Assistant City Manager Gino Grimaldi, City Attorney, Senior Management Analyst Rosie Pryor, Administrative Aide Shari Higgins, and members of staff. Planning Commissioner David Ralston was also in attendance. 1. Planning Commission Interviews. Council discussed what interview questions would be asked of applicants. Mayor Morrisette said there were five applicants scheduled for interviews. Applicant Roxie Cuellar withdrew her application, as she accepted a position at the HomeBuilders Association and felt it would be a conflict of interest. Dean Huber was unable to attend due his profession as a Certified Public Account and the upcoming deadline of tax season. His apologies were delivered to the council. Council interviewed the following candidates: . Debi L. Baker William G. Dion-Watson " Michael 1. Barker William C. Carpenter, Jr. Alisa D. Carrillo Council introduced themselves and asked the following interview questions: 1. Why are you interested in serving on the Planning Commission? 2. Can you describe your understanding of the relationship between the Planning Commission and city staff, and the Planning Commission and the City Council. 3. How would you make sure people felt they were treated fairly when you would not favor a development proposal? 4. What do you see are biggest challenges that growth will bring to Springfield? 5. What do you hope to gain from being on the Planning Commission? 6. Have you attended a Planning Commission meeting? . 7. In your opinion, what are the pro's and con's of growth in Springfield and how can the Planning Commission or City Council minimize the problems and maximize positive development. 8. Do you have any questions? City of Springfield Work Session - 4/13/98 Page 2 . Council discussed the six candidates, their interviews, and their level of experience in serving on the commission. By written vote, council agreed to appoint Bill Carpenter to fill the remainder of the term left vacant by the resignation of Salvatore Collura, which expires June 3, 2000. The appointment will be ratified at council's Regular Session meeting, scheduled for April 20, 1998.
