RE: Courtesy Inspection at 520 Centennial Blvd., Springfield, Oregon
Dear Mr. Conner:
At the request of the tenant, John Mark Beachy; a Courtesy Inspection was conducted on
January 17, 1985 at the above referenced address. The following items do not meet the
minimum standards of the Springfield Housing Code.
1. The wood stove in the kitchen was installed incorrectly. The stove does not have
proper clearances from combustibles, has inadequate hearth protection and the
chimney connection is made with single wall stove pipe through a standard frammed
wall. All the above conditions constitute a potential fire hazard.
As you address this problem, please consider the following: A) Unlisted wood burning
appliances require 36" from combustibles. B) The hearth must extend 8" on each side
and 18" in front of the stove." C)" Single wall stove pipe requires 18" clearance from
combustibles. D) In order to ensure a safe installation, a permit and inspection is
" required for the installation of a wood stove.
2. The water heater does not work and must be repaired or replaced. Because of sani-
tation requirements, all dwelling units must have hot and cold running water.
I will check back with you in 7 days from the date of this letter to see how you're
progressing. If you finish earlier, or if you have any questions, please feel free
