The Fire Marshal IS request for an inspection of the electrical wiring at 302 West
Centennial Boulevard has revealed that all of the additional wiring and alterations made
-
since the original wiring installation, have been made with no regard to the Oregon State
Electrical Safety Standards.
Due to the imminent hazards involved, request for immediate disconnection of the
electrical power will be made at this time.
Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR), 22-110 (b), states that the owner shall do no wjring
or alterations of the wiring installation on property for rent or sale.
Defects are listed with reference to sections of the 1978 National Electrical Code,
as adopted by the State of Oregon and hereinafter known as the Oregon State Electrical
Spectalty-Ccde-(OSESC)and the Uniform Housing Code as adopted by the City of Springfield.
1. The original wiring installation has been altered and added to without the proper
division of required circuits and overcurrent protection. Install not less than 6 (six)
small appliance and lighting circuits. (JOAR 22-135 and OSESC 230-94 and OSESC 230-79 (c).
2. The service equipment is inadequate and defective. Alterations of the service
have increased the electrical hazards by congesting all of the circuits under one over-
current device. Install new service equipment of not less than 100 ampere rating. Increase
the rating if electrical heat is installed to equal the demand load. OSESC 230-79 (c).
3. Receptacles, switches. lighting fixtures, were installed without outlet boxes.
Install boxes at all outlets. OSESC 300-15 (a) (b).

4. Single conductor, rubbercord and fixture cord (zipcord) wirinq is not approved.
Replace with non-metallic sheathes cable and install within the walls, or in protective
conduit where exposed in the house, attic and garage. OSESC 300-4 (a) (b).
5. Install not less than one duplex receptacle and one switched liqht in each bed-
room and bathroom. UHC 701 (b)
6. Open splices in all areas shall be enclosed in boxes. OSESC 300-15.
7. The defective equipment in all areas needs to be replaced. (Liqht fixtures.
receptacles, switches, covers, etc.)
Please note the above violations do not comprise a complete list of violations
found during the inspection, but the above listed violations and the potenttallv~'
hazardous nature thereof, necessitates immediate notification.
A follow-up letter will
be sent listing additional problem areas within a few days.
