RE: Subgrade Evaluation
Lot 108 - Ambleside Subdivision Phase II
Springfield, Oregon
On February 6, 2003 a geotechnical engineer from Ford & Associates, Inc. performed a
geotechnical reconnaissance of the residential building Lot 108 in Phase II of the Ambleside
Subdivision in Springfield, Oregon. ,The lot gently slopes to the northwest and had significant.
surface water sheeting across the lot at the time of the field investigation. Hand probing of the
lot indicated at least a 20-inch overexcavation is. r~quired to remove soft surface soil and footing
drains are required.
After overexcavation we recommend that the building pad be overlain with at least 4-inches of
compacted crushed aggregate to provide a competent subgrade suitable for an allowable
bearing capacity up to 1,500 psf. Observation of the subgrade by the geotechnical engineer or
his representative is recommended before concrete forms are placed. All footings shall be
reinforced with at least two #4 steel reinforcing bars, and that surface water be directed away
. from the foundations and not allowed to pond adjacent to footing. The additional subgrade form
required for this subdivision will be completed upon inspection of the final sUbgrade, and review
of the geotechnical report of record. : .
Sincerely,
Ford & Associates Inc.
