PURPOSE AND SCOPE
As requeste~, K & A Engineering, Inc. has completed a !imlted"6valuation of solis at the subject site of the
construction of a single-famlly rssklence on lot 18 of the 51. LucIa Park subdivision. The purpose of this
evaluation was to determine the su~ability of the site for construction of the proposed conventionally framed
structures on cast-in-place concrete spread footings and to make recommendations for preparation of the
foundation pad.
FOUNDATION PREPARATION
The site Is located on a flat lot south of Main Street off of a new extension of Aster Street. There were no signs
or significant unstable areas (tension cracks. depressions, scarps) at the time of our inspection or during
excavation,
Solis at the site consisted of 1.0 to 1.S.feet of loose brown organic SIL IS (topsoil) over 1.5 to 2.5-feet of
brown, moderately dense, damp"moderately plastic SILT over tan/orange-stained, very stiff to hard, very
weathered tuffaceous SILTSTONE; The brown, moderately plastlc slits are sllghtfy to moderately expansive.
Groundwater was not encourrtered In the excavation.
Preparation of the foundation pads was made according to our on-slte recommendations, and consIsted of
stripping the organic surface soilS and silts to undisturbed brown slits or siltstone to a depth rangIng frqm 2 to
3.5-feet .
Approximately 12 to 24-inches of select granular fill consisting of 3-lnch dense-graded quarry rock was placed
in 12-lnch (maximum) lifts and compactad using a steel.whe8led vibratory rollsr until no furtl1sf deformation
was evident during compaction at the edges of the roller.

SUMMARY AND RlCOMMENDAnONS
The foundation pad, as prepared, Is suitable to support the cast-In-place concrete spread footings without
slgn~lcant heaving but with good bearing capacity (1,500 pounds per SQuare foot allowable bearing capacity).
We recommend acceptance of the foundation pad. aa ~nep8r8d, by the City of Springfield Building Official.
