Employee Recognition: Annette Miller, 25 Years
What personnel data, promotions, career highlights, and significant accomplishments best tell our
Council about the employee?
Officer Annette Miller started working for the City of Springfield in April of 1990. Her first
position was as the Security Attendant at City Hall.
Through positive interactions with the Police Department she was offered the position as on-call
Court Security Officer in October of 1991.
She continued in both positions and became a Reserve Police Officer in January of 1992.
Officer Miller continued to work part time, on-call with the City of Springfield in several
positions for several years including temporarily as a Police Records Clerk, Parking Control
Officer, Animal Control Clerk and Police Custodian.
In January of 1997 Officer Miller was selected to fill the full time Court Security Officer position
created by retired Lieutenant Bob Baker’s second retirement. She maintained her volunteer
position with the City of Springfield as Reserve Police Officer but surrendered all the other duties
to other employees.
In January of 2009 the City of Springfield created the position of Detention Officer to staff the
planned Springfield Municipal Jail. The decision was made to incorporate the Court Security
Officer responsibilities into the Detention Officer position and therefore Officer Miller became
the first Detention Officer for the City.
In June of 1992 Officer Miller earned the Top Academic Student and Top Shooter awards in her
Reserve Police Academy. She also served as valedictorian of her class.
Officer Miller repeated that performance in the 2009 Basic Corrections Officer Academy by
earning Top Academic Student and Top Shooter honors. She was also elected Class Leader for
the Corrections Academy.
In Officer Miller’s 25 years of service to the City she has participated in numerous events and
incidents.
She was on duty and responded to the Thurston High School shooting.
She helped locate a murder weapon on one occasion.
She assisted in locating and arresting two home invasion robbers.
She found and arrested the Jack in the Box robber.
Officer Miller is also a familiar sight at countless traffic control scenes for U of O
football traffic, parades and car cruises.
Officer Miller states “It is my honor to serve the City of Springfield and represent the Police
Department.”
