HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 07 Employee Recognition - Dean Bishop, 25 Years of ServiceSpringfield Upbeat May 4, 2015 Employee Recognition: Dean Bishop, 25 Years Professional  Dean came to the City of Springfield as a traffic technician and developed outstanding AutoCad skills and progressed in the Traffic Engineering Technician series to a Traffic Tech 4 rate.  Projects he has worked on include:  Downtown Street Lighting  Franklin Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (Pedestrian Crossing)  Signal communication project o This project provided a high speed connection system that would eventually allow for communication to nearly all Springfield signals and replace 1970’s communication technology. Dean was instrumental in its implementation.  Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (Pedestrian Crossing) at the Hayden Bridge Roundabout. o Springfield was one of the first RAB’s in the country to install these devices and Dean was instrumental in completing the project. It was selected for a presentation at the international roundabout conference.  Downtown Parking Re-Design  Traffic Control for all the major events (Cruz, Nick Symmonds, Eugene Marathon, Duck Football, etc.  Signal Radio Communications  Traffic Signal Programming. Personal  Dean grew up in Long Beach California where his father was an expert machinist at an aerospace manufacturing company.  He is an Army veteran of the Vietnam war.  Dean is an excellent piano player, has eclectic musical taste and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music  Dean worked in the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona and Oregon  Dean loves to sail his boat locally and makes an annual trip to the San Juan Islands with friends to sail a larger live-aboard boat for a week.  Dean lives with his wife, Vicki, on a small farm west of Eugene where he has a menagerie of animals.  Dean is also a fine wood worker and enjoys his time in his workshop. Co-workers’ comments:  Dean is known by the City Traffic Engineer as a “bulldog” because he won’t let go of a problem until it is solved. This a valuable trait when a traffic signal is not behaving and the horns are honking. Dean keeps his focus on the traffic signal controller and fixing it!  Dean’s coworkers value his friendship, steady performance under pressure, technical skills, and helpful attitude toward citizens, contractors and coworkers.
