Employee Recognition: Dean Bishop, 25 Years
Professional
Dean came to the City of Springfield as a traffic technician and developed outstanding
AutoCad skills and progressed in the Traffic Engineering Technician series to a Traffic
Tech 4 rate.
Dean is known by the City Traffic Engineer as a “bulldog” because he won’t let go of a
problem until it is solved. This a valuable trait when a traffic signal is not behaving and
the horns are honking. Dean keeps his focus on the traffic signal controller and fixing it!
Dean’s coworkers value his friendship, steady performance under pressure, technical
skills, and helpful attitude toward citizens, contractors and coworkers.
Personal
Dean grew up in Long Beach California where his father was an expert machinist at an
aerospace manufacturing company.
He is an Army veteran of the Vietnam war.
Dean is an excellent piano player, has eclectic musical taste and received his Bachelor’s
Degree in Music
Dean worked in the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona and Oregon
Dean loves to sail his boat locally and makes an annual trip to the San Juan Islands with
friends to sail a larger live-aboard boat for a week.
Dean lives with his wife, Vicki, on a small farm west of Eugene where he has a
menagerie of animals.
Dean is also a fine wood worker and enjoys his time in his workshop.
