HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 03 Volunteer Recognition Check PresentationSpringfield Upbeat March 16, 2015 Volunteer Recognition Check Presentation KarLynn Akins The City of Springfield honored its Volunteers at City Hall on January 28, 2015 with a recognition and celebration dinner and awards ceremony. The City of Springfield’s Volunteer Program is made up of approximately 250 active volunteers. Over the past 10 months Volunteers have provided over 14,000 hours of volunteer service to their community. These hours equal $342,667.50 in donated time! The Volunteer Program is growing and expanding. During the past 8 months over 85 new volunteers joined the City of Springfield’s Volunteer team. There are more than twenty (20) different areas in which to volunteer on a regular basis, in addition to participating on boards and commissions. This past year the City of Springfield joined forces with the Points of Light Foundation and the City‘s Volunteer Program met the requirements for receiving Presidential accreditation for its Community Service program. Points of Light is an organization created by President George H. W. Bush in an effort to recognize volunteerism in our community. A mock check in the amount of $342,667.50 is being presented during tonight’s Council meeting as acknowledgment of the many volunteer hours donated to the City.
