HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 05 Employee Recognition, Bob FinsandSpringfield Upbeat July 21, 2014 Employee Recognition: Robert Finsand, 15 Years What personnel data, promotions, career highlights, and significant accomplishments best tell our Council about the employee? • Bob began his employment with the City as a Maintenance Apprentice in April of 1999, promoting to Maintenance Tech Journey in April of 2002. • Bob entered into a Limited Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship and promoted to a fully licensed LME in 2008 where he currently works maintaining traffic signal systems across the City. • Bob is proactive in developing field procedures for the installation of thermoplastic pavement markings that are more cost effective than annual paint refreshing in complex traffic applications. • Bob is known for his strong initiative and great work ethic! • Recently, Bob participated in the upgrade with the Downtown Parking project which involved new sign design and build, in addition to pole and concrete footing installation/replacement. This saved the City big $$$ having staff constructing the project. How has the Department changed over the employee’s career? • Public Works has unified with Development Services and is now DPW. Bob works in the Operations Division and on July 1 Bob’s OPS Traffic Maintenance group combined with the Traffic Engineering group to improve traffic systems continuity and program communication. City Traffic Engineer Brian Barnett will oversee this group. How has the employee grown in their position and their career? • Bob likes the challenge of learning new things, especially the emerging technology of traffic signal systems. • Bob served 7 years as AFSCME Union President while negotiating two labor contracts. He is appreciative of the good relationships built with City Management and the City Council during that period. What significant projects or events has the employee been involved in? • Bob was a campaign team member for the City’s 2013 United Way Campaign and helped the City achieve a record 22% increase in donations. He truly cares about our local community and supporting the well-being of our citizens. He really stepped up and was a positive leader in promoting these values to other employees for our community’s benefit.
