Accomplishments:
• Brandt created the Springfield GIS system when he came on as an intern over 20 years
ago. Since then he has transformed it into a complete and well-functioning asset
management system that is the envy of many cities around the country and, perhaps, even
abroad.
• Brandt is a regular partner with NASA and a frequent presence at national conferences on
geospatial issues. All of those activities he has translated into benefits for the City.
• He is one of the national leaders in efforts to update the National Spatial Data Initiative, which makes it possible to facilitate communicating spatial data on a consistent basis
between federal, state and local agencies.
• His efforts also go to the other end of the spectrum by helping develop opportunities for children to learn what geospatial data, why it is important, and how to use it.
• Among other things, Brandt is Springfield’s unofficial unmanned aeronautic vehicle (some people call them drones) expert. He even builds his own.
• Finally he is also a graduate of the Springfield Chamber’s Leadership Program, and the
Chinook Institute Leadership Program.
