PROCLAMATION
WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK
AUGUST 1-7, 2014
WHEREAS, Children are our most precious resource and it is our responsibility
to care for and nurture them; and
WHEREAS, Breastfeeding is an important component of child health,
contributing to their growth and psycho-social development; and
WHEREAS, Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life provides all
the nutrition babies need to grow; and
WHEREAS, Mothers who breastfeed reduce their risk for cancers and other
diseases; and
WHEREAS, Mothers need the support of fathers, friends, health professionals and communities to initiate and sustain breastfeeding; and
WHEREAS, Daisy C.H.A.I.N. Creating Healthy Alliances In New-Mothering
Oregon promotes breastfeeding through activities and services that demonstrate protection and
support of breastfeeding, including the upcoming Breastfeed'in Springfield-Eugene on Saturday, August 2.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christine L. Lundberg, Mayor of the City of Springfield,
do hereby proclaim August 1 – 7, 2014 as “World Breastfeeding Week” and encourage all
citizens of Springfield to help promote and support breastfeeding mothers and families in our community.
