HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 04 Proclamation of Support for NEDCO 35 Anniversary PROCLAMATION OF SUPPORT FOR NEDCO (Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation) WHEREAS: The city of Springfield recognizes the importance of investing in our own human and capital assets to build strong families, neighborhoods, and communities; WHEREAS: We know that Access to Healthy & Affordable Food Builds Stronger Families such that children who are food secure have significantly better outcomes in health, education, and long-term economic success as adults; WHEREAS: We know that Homeownership Builds Stronger Neighborhoods such that homeowners are significantly more likely to invest in property maintenance and improvement and engage in civic participation; WHEREAS: We know that Financially Stable Families Build Stronger Communities such that those who develop good savings habits are far more likely to achieve a sustainable asset goal such as homeownership; WHEREAS: To assist and empower our City’s individuals and families to create a future rich with opportunity and free from poverty; WHEREAS: This effort along with similar celebrations in Marion and Clackamas Counties, will offer our community the opportunity to create positive change; build a stronger financial future for themselves and their families; participate in community ownership and governance; and contribute to a healthy and vibrant region where everyone invests in themselves and their community. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christine Lundberg, Mayor of Springfield, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby commend NEDCO (Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation), on their work of building opportunities for our community: markets for local products, access to financial stability, support for micro-business, a path to homeownership, and renewed interest in our Main Street, and in so doing, urge all citizens to join in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of community economic development. ___________________________________ Christine L.
