It was formed as a means to fund equipment for the police dog teams. Purchases made with donation fund money have included ballistic vests for the dogs, back seat kennels and remote door openers (for the handlers not the dogs!). John Woodrow has been a long time supporter of the K9 unit. He has been invited by the K9 unit to be the opening speaker at past K9 competitions. Police is very thankful for his ongoing support and recent donation Angelika Boggs is one of those citizens who comes to the K9 competitions, buys the K9 shirts and is a quiet supporter. She is also a graduate ofthe Springfield Citizen's Academy. Ms. Boggs has owned German Shepherds in the past and in fact, speaks German. The Police are honored to have her think of us and for her generous support. The K9 unit plans on buying heat alarm systems with the money donated by Mr. Woodrow and Ms. Boggs. This will provide the dogs who work during daylight hours in the summer additional protection from overheating. It will notify the handler if the car gets too hot for the dog.
