Approve or reject the following motion:
TO AWARD THE SUBJECT CONTRACT TO H&J CONSTRUCTION, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $997,122.00.
ISSUE STATEMENT:
Five bids were received on this sewer upgrade project. Contract award is now
necessary to enable work to proceed.

DISCUSSION/ FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This is the second phase of a 2 phase project designed to mitigate capacity problems in a portion of the wastewater collection system and treatment facilities.
Phase 1 is in its final completion stage and Phase 2 is scheduled to follow to
complete the required system improvements. Once complete, several chronic sanitary sewer overflow points along this segment will be eliminated. Identified in
the Wastewater Master Plan, this project is necessary to enable the City to maintain compliance with federal and state requirements to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows.
This project consists of the placement of approximately 2,800 linear feet of new 24-
inch sanitary sewer pipe and 15 new sanitary sewer manholes by open cut method. In addition, 140 linear feet of new 8-inch, 120 linear feet of new 10-inch, 10 linear feet of new 12-inch and 10 linear feet of new 15-inch storm sewer pipe will be
placed by open cut method. Two catch basins and one storm sewer manhole will be removed and replaced. Slurry seal, street repair, and construction of a new pathway
will occur on two blocks of undeveloped 13th Street right of way.

H&J Construction, Inc. is the low bidder on this project. Funding for this project is provided by the Wastewater Revenue Bonds sold in 2009. Sufficient funds are
budgeted in the 10th and N Street Upgrade Project account (850225) to allow award
of the contract.
