PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: Caregivers throughout the Eugene/Springfield area provide essential services to
the most vulnerable members of our community; and
WHEREAS: The services caregivers provide to our seniors, children, and people with
disabilities and illnesses often go unnoticed: and
WHEREAS: Care-giving represents one of the fastest growing segments of our workforce and
caregivers deserve to be paid a living wage; and
WHEREAS: “Caring for the Caregiver” enhances the quality of services we all enjoy: and
WHEREAS: The official recognition of this event by the cities of Springfield and Eugene will
provide inspiration to and support for caregivers and aid in educating our
communities about the important services they provide,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kitty Piercy, Mayor of the City of Eugene, and I, Mayor Christine
Lundberg, Mayor of Springfield, Oregon, do hereby proclaim April 8, 2014, to be,
“Caregiver Recognition Day”
in Eugene and Springfield, Oregon, and urge everyone in the community to identify their
personal role in supporting and “Caring for the Caregiver.”
