Staff will introduce Amy Chinitz, SUB Drinking Water Source Protection Coordinator, who will present the Groundwater Guardians plaque to the Council. The Groundwater Guardians are a volunteer group made up of agencies, businesses, and private citizens who protect drinking water sources from contamination. This is accomplished through public education, and community activities. School programs related to water continue to thrive. In elementary and middle school, they range from learning about the water cycle to field studies. The high school program has long been recognized for its application to science, mathematics, and chemistry. Older student volunteers even collect samples and perform water tests that are used by local utilities in monitoring water quality. Again, thank you so very much for the City Council’s continued support of Springfield Groundwater Guardians. As you can see, this volunteer organization helps fill a vital niche in continuing to keep the community’s drinking water clean.
