White Construction Company, Earth Engineers, Inc. (EEI) representative Ray Aliperti was on-site today to perform visual inspection of reinforcing steel, anchor bolts, and concrete forms for: 1) all exterior hotel building footings including pad footings C at 12 and Q at 1.5 except for footings between gridlines 12 and 13 from F to J. This location was left open to provide vehicle access to the interior of the building pad. The footings at this location will be formed, reinforcing steel placed, and filled with concrete at a later date; and 2) elevator pad footing, slab, and footings. Reinforcing steel was inspected for grade, size, lap, placement, and clearances where applicable. The reinforcing steel and anchor bolts were secured against displacement using tie wire and additional reinforcing steel and supported on 3" tall plastic chairs for ground clearance. The footing locations and interior of the forms were clean and free of debris. As per the approved project plans, continuous inspection during the placement of concrete was not required. One set of four (4" X 8") concrete test cylinders were cast from Knife River's mix no. 2430NEA2M0 (3,000psi, no air, with midrange reducer) placed in the footings on this date. The test cylinders were left on-site in a cooler for initial storage and will be picked up within 48 hours and transported to the laboratory for final storage and compression testing. One test cylinder will be tested at 7-days and the remaining three cylinders tested at 28-days. The results of those tests along with more detailed concrete information (i.e. time batched, time sampled, etc.) will be presented under separate cover. The sample we obtained from the first concrete truck had a measured slump of 5-1/2". White Construction Company, Earth Engineers, Inc. (EEI) representative Ray Aliperti was on-site today to observe structural fill being placed by W.W. Construction under the proposed hotel building slab-on-grade. At the time of our site visit, W.W. Construction was placing sand blend (a mixture of sand with fine gravel) imported from Delta Sand and Gravel. The material was transported to the site using one (1) dump truck and one (1) dump truck with trailer. The material was being spread in relatively thin lifts (6"-8" loose lifts) and compactive efforts were being applied using an Ingersoll Rand SD-70D vibratory smooth drum roller. Based on visual observations the material appeared to be uniformly graded and near optimum moisture. Adjacent to the stemwall, compactive efforts were applied using a vibratory plate compactor. According to Mr. Culver, approximately 2' of structural fill is scheduled to be placed under the proposed concrete slab-on- grade and then the utilities and interior footings will be placed. After the utilities are installed and the concrete for the interior footings is poured, the remaining 1' of structural fill under the concrete slab-on-grade will be placed. . r i ' - r . -rte i i ` S ".1.45,14t. r `r, 'fi 15:•N! White Construction Company, Earth Engineers, Inc. (EEI) representative Ray Aliperti was on-site today to observe structural fill continuing to be placed by W.W. Construction under the proposed hotel building slab-on-grade. On this date we also observed a proofroll on the first 1' of fill placed and compacted. At the time of our site visit, W.W. Construction continued placing sand blend (a mixture of sand with fine gravel) imported from Delta Sand and Gravel. The material was transported to the site using two (2) dump trucks with trailers. The material was being spread in relatively thin lifts (6"-8" loose lifts) using a John Deere 160C LC excavator with a 4' wide smooth bladed bucket. Compactive efforts were applied using the Ingersoll Rand SD-70D vibratory smooth drum roller. Based on visual observations the material appeared to be uniformly graded and near optimum moisture. Adjacent to the stemwall, compactive efforts were applied using a vibratory plate compactor. To assist us in determining the compactive efforts being applied and density of the structural fill, a proofroll was conducted. The proofroll was conducted using a fully loaded tandem axle dump truck weighing approximately 55,000lbs. No deflections (pumping) were observed under the wheel loads of the dump truck and only slight wheel tracking (rutting) less than 1" occurred, indicating a relatively firm, stable, and well compacted fill is being achieved with the exception of the following area: an area measuring 18' east/west by 16' north/south just east of the elevator pit between approximate gridline 6 and 9 from M to P. At this location, pumping was observed under the wheel loads of the dump truck and rutting up to 4"-5" in depth occurred indicating an unstable area. The excavator was used to dig down in the area and it was determined based on visual observations that the upper 6"-8" of the underlying sandy "bar-run" gravel fill was well over- optimum moisture (saturated). The source of that material may have been from the excavation of the elevator pit. The saturated material was removed and replaced with imported sand blend. The area was then re-compacted and re- proofrolled. The proofroll indicated that the area was now firm and stable and ready to receive the next lift of fill material. • EEI Report No. 13-029-20 October 29, 2013 Page 2 of 3 • ,-_...\_' - - . • +yy+a r. °.—` r . fit ij ,4), ✓y gy i ^4P4I ( w ^1 3 4 1y etki . 4i 3,1,,..%0 )_ _"ry .A of n " 11‘..,n77.—i 777i2 • - rr "(/T`r1 '+ iti >r i a or @Q ' a 4-f r tl ,7 " S^ 1 !•4 t tSil , - ,,,,,,:1;1‘4,'.,,,z; r t S r I .":111$4I'J,, `+n,j "`t3c v a" ~«: li ¢I d', y,„ 2r a.t:t ∎∎ R r v bi k Ul' ! t.`t∎:,Al i.""C r f A 3k •f,t" Sr;IC t 1 ir' , ' }Z ' ""SS Fx "Y"t Az ;1-4• a ': ' ,'3 -m w4SJ. 1 A, *'rt til r 4":4, qt©,%, ,,:r 013 N't I r,F rfi ,)yfnfi'v' sy.,i 4 v.:. 1" ^ „r `r t.•v T k d W,' .
