Please find attached the following information regarding the wall in question. It is a wall that was originally constructed in 1964 as part of the Lamella arch structure constructed over the originally outdoor Willamalane Pool, and once supported the end wall glass frames and some of the arch roof load. The following excerpts from documents chart its subsequent role in the building as the bathhouse was remodeled (1987), the natatorium's Lamella roof removed (1996), the present Natatorium roof constructed (1999), and the latest remodel (2013): Page 2 —this is the original detail describing the construction of the wall in 1964. Posts beared on the wall and portions of the wall were reinforced and grouted to carry these loads. Page 3—this is the original and still existing wall footing. Page 4 —this drawing illustrates the roof framing that was added to create the change rooms in the 1987 bathhouse renovation, spanning about 12 feet between the original bathhouse concrete wall and the Lamella arch CMU wall. This wall accepted one half of the tributary roof area. distributed through the 3x12 ledger bolted to the top of the wall, in addition to its existing loads. (We were unable to locate specific details of this bearing condition but it is visible in the photographs attached) Page 5 — photographs Page 6 —this illustrates the end wall truss condition of the present Natatorium roof structure (replacing the Lamella arch roof and posts removed in 1996), showing how the end wall framing is hung from the truss. Page 7 —this detail shows how the truss/end wall framing was gapped to avoid bearing on the wall. In its present form this wall carries only the tributary roof area added to it in 1987. and would have been part of the structural calculations submitted at that time. All other loads have been removed over time. This roof load is distributed along the top of the wall through a continuous ledger. We are confident this current load and bearing condition would calculate well within the parameters of its structural capacity, even with the doors that have been cut-in. Please advise as to whether such calculations are necessary. Sinter Carl Sherwood, AIA Principal, Robertson/Sherwood/Architects pc -1 1.----;--- --. . G'>Li. fit. • + n: I \r- /-, b ..
