Personnel data, promotions, career highlights, and significant accomplishments of the employee.  Matt earned his engineering degree from OSU  He started with the City in 2003 as a development engineer (even though development review engineering was not particularly his area of interest, Matt excelled in that role)  Matt was promoted to Land Development Supervising Engineer, which later became a Managing Civil Engineer position.  Upon merger of the two departments, Matt took control of not only the engineering side of the City’s Land Development program, but also the City’s Building Safety program. He learned quickly how to deal with Building Code issues, and gained the respect of his new staff for building excellent supervisory relationships.  Earlier this year, Matt competed for and was successful in being appointed as the Environmental Services Division Manager. 2. Positive comments shared by Matt’s co-workers  Matt has grown from a young, green Oregon State engineering graduate to a seasoned manager.  He has demonstrated excellent communication and organization skills and has developed a mature and reasoned approach to the many complex infrastructure issues that the City often deals with in balancing the needs of the public with the needs of any particular private development.  He has successfully navigated the challenging task of working with the Development Advisory Committee, along with his work partner, Jim Donovan. Matt is a “straight shooter”, and has earned the respect of his colleagues and his customers in the development community.  He is an analytical thinker who is able to get outside the box in problem solving and solution seeking.  The enthusiasm and courage he brings to workplace improvement, teambuilding, and organizational systems improvement is particularly impressive.  Matt genuinely cares about the quality and integrity of Springfield government services, and insuring that those services are provided to the public efficiently and fairly. His career path is unlimited. 3. Personal  Matt and his wife have two children, Shaun and Carson, who he has taught to ski by cutting his snowboards in half.  He loves the outdoors and is an avid photographer  Matt began manufacturing his own split board skis, has published his pictures in magazines, passed his Ski Patrol exams, and skied a lot.
