A geotechnical engineer visited the above referenced site on March 11 & 14, 2013 to assess the
subgrade conditions of the driveway access to a residential flag-lot building at 1224 Fairview
Drive. As the driveway location had previously been used as a graveled driveway, a subbase of
aggregate was present and intermixed with the silty clay subgradc soil. The subbase was hard
and appeared to hold up under the presumed repeated delivery and concrete truck traffic
required to construct the nearly complete residence at the north end of the driveway. Based on
ow- field testing, we recommended that at least a 3-inch thick leveling course of coo pacied
crushed aggregate be placed over the subbase prior to constructing the 4-inch thick concrete
driveway.
Upon our second visit the subbase had been prepared and 4- to 6-inches of couipactc-d crushed
aggregate had been placed over the subbase. The garage approach apron had just been poured
and there was no indication of deflection of the driveway under the weight of a loaded concrete
truck. A 4-inch thick, unieinfoiced, COM:fete surface will be ponied within a week to complete
the driveway.
Based on our observations, testing, and professional experience, the driveway, as constructed at
completion, is adequate as an all weather accessway for Support of occasional truck traffic With
gross vehicle weights up to 80,000 pounds.
