Box 7153 Eugene, OR 97401 Subject: Inspection at 2167 Bonnie Lane, Springfield, Oregon Dear :Ms. 'Visner: 225 FIFTH STREET SPRINGFIELD, OR 97477 (503) 726-3753 FAX (503) 726-3689 In response to your questions listed in your letter dated September, 10, 1993, I did not perform the original on site framing inspection. That inspection was performed by Ralph Shaw on April 12, 1993. I did perform an inspection on the roof sheathing on July 23, 1993, at your request. I observed less than an 1/8 inch gap between the roof sheathing at the horizontal edges, The gap at the veI1ical edges could not be inspected due to the presence of roof covering. The installation instructions you sent me for Sturdi- Wood Engineered Strand Products requires an 1/8 inch gap on ends and edges. However, in report ~TER-I08, which the manufacturer refers to, the installation instructions make no mention of an 1/8 inch gap being required, In reference to the Oregon One and Two Family Dwelling Code, Table No. R-704,2 recommends an 1/16 inch gap when using particle board roof sheathl11g. Since I did not perform the original inspection, I cannot comment on whether the roof sheathing conformed to State Building Code requirements at the time it was installed. It is not uncommon for this type of material to be delivered to the job site with a yery low moisture content, and subsequently any gap that is present at the time of installation would tend to shrink as the product absorbes atmospheric moisture. If you need any further information or have any questions regarding., tpe above requirements, please contact me at 726-3666 during the hours of 8:00-9:00 a.m., 1:00-2:QO p.m., or 4:00-4:30 p,m. 3; ~/J ,/ .
