Dear Tom:
Mike asked us to inspect the fill under the foundation at the above address. We scheduled this
to coin~ide wjth some back110e w9rk, and u~ the bacl410e for proof rolling. For areas not
accessible to the wheeled machine we used tile backhoe bucket to impact the top of the fill and
check for movements or deflections. The proofing indicates the minimum soil bearing value
well in excess of 1000 psf.
The fill consists of 7" open graded quarry rock base with 6" of 3/4"-(0) topping. We suspect
that this would make the base f1llless dense, and not in complete earth contact. However, the
foundation loads would be sufficiently distributed in the fill to prevent overloading the base soil,
and the foundation is properly reinforced (1-#4 top and bottom) to bridge any small local
anomaly.
